Asian Handicap

January 15th, 2010 ColdAces No comments

There term ‘Asian Handicap’ does not have a simple explanation. This is a form of betting that can be used in favour of the stronger team. Herescotty-Nguyen-bad-beat the stronger team is referred as the ‘handicapped team’ as far as the game is concerned and it renders an imaginary vision to the proposed weaker teams at the start of the game. However, this is known to balance or unbalance the theory and hence all the teams involved stand a fairer chance of winning in the Asian handicap.

As the name suggests, the players might often get the feel that such a betting system exists in Asian countries. However, this betting system was originally started by the European based bookies and this bet is also known as ‘line betting’ in some other countries. Although ‘Asian handicap’ is the betting that was formulated for soccer bets, it is now becoming popular with the other sporting events as well. Apart from Europe, this form of betting is also popular in the Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Formerly, the bettors had to place their bets over the telephone or had to be present physically at the betting locations, however with the increase in technology, the younger generation of bettors have shifted to the online form of gambling and this adds to the popularity.

Bookmakers or dealers are the ones who do the actual handicapping. There is no certain formula used by them to come to specific odds or handicaps. However, it is believed that the bookmakers study each game and their track records, all the teams participating are weighed. Here every single aspect of betting is taken into consideration since these are the important factors that play an important part in deciding the odds. However, most of the players often overlook the ‘mind games’. It must be understood that the bookmakers are going to think about their own profit and not the winnings taken by the players.

In order to gain some substantial profit from the Asian handicap, bookmakers usually devise a strategy of their own that would allow the players to sway away from their initial decision. There are different kinds of Asian handicaps and it becomes extremely important for the players to understand different levels involved. To begin with, there is an Asian handicap called ‘Level’. Here both the teams participating would be difficult to separate on paper and thus there is no particular team that would be going in with an added advantage. This is one of the easiest of all handicaps.

Loads of bookmakers have started offering the Asian handicap bets as a substitute for the usual 1:2 betting scenario. For all those who take betting seriously, they should consider using some strategies in order to win out of the Asian handicap punting. At the time of betting on the Asian handicap, there are only two options that are given to the player, one of which is to give handicap and the other is to receive handicap. However, it is widely known that receiving handicap has proven successful in most cases. While receiving the handicap, the player is actually placing his bets on the weaker teams and sometimes the weaker teams turn out to be the underdogs to winning or drawing a game. In such a scenario, there is a greater advantage to the player.

At the same time as you give the handicap, the team you bet on would have no other option but to win the game. In such a situation, the player would lose the bet even if the team manages to draw the game.

History of Bingo

January 15th, 2010 ColdAces No comments

Bingo is one of the most popular games all over the world. However, not many people know about the history behind the game. It originally started in United States and was referred to as ‘Beano’. It could usually be found at boardwalks and country fairs. The caller, as they know him today, would randomly draw numbers from some kind of a box, commonly a cigar box. The paying customers would then cover the numbers on their cards with the beans. The player would shout ‘Beano’ if there was a winning combination on the card. During those times, the horizontal straight lines were the only winning combinations known.

The game was introduced in Italy in the year 1530 and was known as ‘Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia’ signifying Italian Bingo. The game is still being played on every Saturday. After its inception in Italy, the game was then introduced in France in the year 1770. The French referred to the game as ‘Le Lotto’. This was more of a wealthy man’s game in France. After its overwhelming success in Italy and France, it was adopted by the professors in Germany for teaching purposes. Students could relate well with the bingo cards, especially for subjects such as Maths, Spelling and History. The teachers would use a different version of the game for each of these subjects. Bingo was introduced in United States in the year 1929 and the ‘Beano’ version was originally played in Atlanta, Georgia.

A toy salesman called Edwin Lowe felt an opportunity coming his way, while watching several games in the carnival. From that point onwards, he started hosting games with the help of tiny cardboard cards as well as rubber stamps. One of the players, during one such game, screamed ‘bingo’ instead of the word ‘Beano’. Being a New York native, Lowe was extremely excited about the term and thereafter renamed it as ‘bingo’. He started selling the game in two different ways, one of which would cost $1 for 12 cards or $2 for 24 cards. He then hired another professor from the Columbia University, so as to introduce newer sequences on the cards. The duo came up with more than 6000 different cards.

Thereafter, some catholic priest approached Lowe to find out means to raise funds through these cards. Bingo was then spread all across United States, after Lowe gave his consent to the church. After 1934, it was reported that over 10000 bingo games were played per week. At the moment, it has been estimated that Bingo sales gross over 90 million in United States itself.
